Boyish Chic Holiday Wishlist: Punk Taiwan Inspired

Soooo, I've been a bit MIA: the past two months, I've been traveling around southeast Asia & have started up a new travel blog: Road To Here Blog. No worries - it will also feature fashion and some new surprises, including the super adorable pipsqueaks Hati & Ernesto. Get in on the action here!

Currently, I'm in Taipei, Taiwan, and I must say that it's bringing the punk side back out of me. Think platform moto boots, funky military jackets, and big snow beanies (yes, it's actually a bit chilly here - but no snow!). Taipei, you've inspired my 2013 holiday wishlist below. Cheers to you!

Bali Getaway Wishlist.

Labor Day has come and gone, but, in my mind, summer is still going strong. I'll enjoy autumn when October comes. For now, I'll be daydreaming up what my getaway to Bali wishlist would look like: think patterns, bright colors, mixing and matching, practicality (messenger bag for bicycle rides and flowy, more conservative wear to match with southeast Asian culture).

Animal.

Eric and I left our own little zoo back home & took a trip to Stone Zoo. It was so much fun. Exploring around and learning about the different animals was an adventure, for sure. So was dressing for the day. It was humid out so I went for light and airy. But, hey, I knew we'd be walking through dirt in the zoo so I broke out my favorite boots.

We came face to face with some big(ger) cats than we're used to...

I spy with my little eye...

Feeding the Aussies!

When I said face to face, I really meant it.

Most beautiful creature.

Despite the rain, it was all in all an amazing day.
And... we're always happy to go home to our own jungle Kat.

Wingersheek.

Eric and I ventured out to Wingersheek in Massachusetts this week. You can walk out for a mile in knee high water on the sandbar in this beautiful little cove. The sand is a pristine white and the water's fairly clear with no waves. There were also these amazing boulder faces to climb on and explore...

Mr. Crab! Haha, ah, what a couple of cutiepies. :P

We made it to the car as it started down pouring. It was amazing to see the lightning out over the water. Such a lovely day of beach bumming and exploring. If you're ever in the area, I would definitely suggest checking this beach out.

Eric always picks out his own style to rock and it pretty much makes me swoon every time (how many times can I say 'swoon' in one post? Haha). I really like his combo of the happy red with darker, gray shorts. Get your own Iron Man tee like Eric's here.

tweed + kicks.

Lazy Saturday afternoon (too rare nowadays) at the park in this jacket I snagged for $12 on a clearance rack and my Converse kicks. I'm especially diggin' how this outfit lends itself to being ridiculously comfortable and equally chic. This is a win-win.

raspberry chiffon.

Despite the snow, springtime has arrived & it's making me smile. I found this spontaneous tulip in the middle of the yard...

eccentric pattern + bright colors.

This is one of my favorite dresses. It's cinched at my waist and flows outward - perfect for my pear shaped body, which is usually hard to please (for real!). I'm also really into leg warmers right now. My mom got me this pair and I think they're pretty much the cutest things ever: they have tiny bows on the side and they're bright red for an edgy pop.

There's a lot going on with this outfit, but I think having one pattern with the three other solid colors allows it to all work together in a spunky way. I know mixing and unmatching patterns is in right now. I'll admit, sometimes I'm afraid of adding color when I'm wearing an eccentric pattern. I've found that if I add other pieces that are solid, I can still get away with pops of color. Hope this may help someone else out there!

Oh, and it was flurrying while I was taking these: seeing the tiny specks show up made me smile.

blazer + lace.

My go-to work booties: I love their worn look mixed with a heel. I also like mixing this oversized blazer with more feminine pieces like this cobalt, lace shirt I got for $12 off the clearance rack at Macy's. Sometimes Macy's can be like a thrift store...
